Terminology

The Nyingarn Workspace is a place for users to create items and collections and curate their resources. It is not a repository, so, once an item has been transcribed and the text has been downloaded, the item should either be deleted or published to the Nyingarn Repository. We will delete unpublished items that have not been opened for six months.

An item is a manuscript or a section of a larger manuscript. An item has a name which is a sequence of letters, numbers and underscores and must begin with a letter. Within an item, you will upload your manuscript images and transcriptions. See below a workspace screenshot of item Bates35 from the Daisy Bates Collection.

A resource is a group of files corresponding to a manuscript page. You will upload an image of a manuscript page (preferably in in tiff format) and the workspace will create formats suitable for display on the web (e.g. jpeg), a thumbnail and a TEI transcription. The set of files is the resource.

A collection is a group of manuscript items. Items can be grouped by a language or linguistic-collector, for example.
